A TV antenna is a device that is specially designed to receive over the air broadcast television signal. Once is the outdoor antenna and the other one is the indoor antenna. Both of them work in a similar process. The TV antenna is made of metal and it needs to install with the television.
Indoor TV Antenna
Indoor antenna comes in a portable size. If you are living in a city of town and the broadcast tower is not so far from your home, you can use them. It is easy to install and doesn’t require and extra accessories to work. Usually, you can install this type of antenna along with your television or you can install it on a table. The only problem of this antenna is, it can’t receive the signal from a distance place.
Outdoor TV Antenna
This is the most popular type of antenna which is widely used in different areas for television channels. This device is made of metal and it needs to be mounted in the rooftop or a similar place. You need to install and aim the antenna properly to catch all the local channels. In some cases, you may need to ask for expert help to install it properly.
TV Antenna Design Basics and Working System
Television antennas are designed to receive VHF or UHF signals from the broadcasting tower. TV stations spread the signal through transmission towers. Usually, this tower is located on the rooftop of the TV station. This tower transforms the image, video, and audio into a digital signal.
However, you will find two types of antenna which are directional and omnidirectional. Directional antennas are designed to receive the signal from a particular direction. This type is not suitable to use when the broadcasting towers are located in multiple directions. Omnidirectional is opposite to the directional antenna. This type of antenna can catch the digital signal from different directions. So it won’t be a problem if the towers are located in multiple directions.
Most of the television antennas are half wave dipoles and the metal rods are half of the wavelength of the signal it is going to receive. The television broadcast bands are too wide in frequency to be covered by a single antenna. That is why there are multiple rods in the antenna because a single antenna is not capable of receiving a wide wave. TV antennas stay in linearly polarized position and the television stations broadcast in circular polarization. Thus the whole process goes and we get the channels.
Coaxial cable also plays an important role to transmit the digital signal into video and audio. Normal wire cables come with two parts but coaxial cable comes in a different structure. There is a grounding around the cable to ensure the noise-free signal receiving. The small box in a TV antenna transmits the signal to the television with this coaxial cable.
